Islaya krainziana (Cactus)

It is a globular cactus, which over time tends to assume a columnar habit. In the natural habitat it can reach up to 80 cm in height. It has a dark green stem with 20-25 low ribs, on which very downy areoles, of a color ranging from whitish to greyish, are formed. The needle-like spines are of variable length and color: the radial spines are yellowish, while the central ones are longer, of a color that fades from yellow-cream to dark brown, almost blackish, towards the tip. In summer, it generates large funnel-shaped diurnal yellow flowers.
