A slow-growing cactus, with a columnar habit, that over time can branch out in the upper part. In its natural habitat it can reach up to 7 meters in height. Its stem, of a cylindrical and erect shape, is entirely covered by a thick, whitish downy coat, from which sparse, rigid and translucent yellowish spines emerge. Its funnel-shaped nocturnal flowers, which bloom in late spring or early summer, have a considerable size and a color that can vary from white to purple.
