Echinocactus platyacanthus (Cactus)

It is a slow-growing solitary cactus, which in nature can reach enormous sizes up to 3 m in height and 1 m in diameter. Initially it has a globular shape, then with the growth it assumes a columnar shape. Its bluish-green stem produces up to 60 ribs, on which very downy areoles are formed, that are initially round, which then become elliptical and arranged in such a way to create an almost continuous line. The spines are rigid and robust, needle-like, of a color that can vary from yellowish to brownish, up to reddish. In spring / summer, it produces diurnal yellow flowers.
