Astrobergia (Cactus)

The name of this extravagant and rare cacti comes from the union of Astrophytum and Leuchtenbergia; it does not exist in nature, but it was conceived for the first time in Chinese nurseries crossing Astrophytum ornatum and Leuchtenbergia principis. The exemplar obtained is absolutely unique, a perfect mix formed by globose and dotted stem similar to Astrophytum, however equipped with conical tubercles strongly elongated and ending with long spines, resembling to the ribs of Leuchtenbergia. The overall obtained look is extremely ornamental and original, it will be perfect to furnish interior spaces of any style with its incomparable mix. Also, don’t forget that it’s a complicated crossing to obtain, which is another reason why it is such a rare specimen and, consequently, very sought after! Here are some tips for its cultivation: It likes very bright positions, however avoiding direct sunlight in the hottest hours of the day. It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures, never less than 10 º C, so it is recommended to place it in sheltered and airy places during winter. Water moderately, only if the soil is completely dry. It’s enough once every two weeks in spring and summer, and once a month in fall. Suspend altogether in winter. It is optimal a well draining and mineral-rich substrate, like a suitable soil for cacti, to which you can add pumice. It does not need frequent fertilizations, it will be sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with the water of the waterings once a year.
