This species includes numerous varieties of perennial plants that are distinguished from each other by the shape of the leaves, the colors and the size. The name comes from the Latin, 'saxum' means stone and 'frango' which means rompo and are literally called 'rock breaker' for the ability of their roots to grow on rocky soils even between the stones breaking them. The leaves of the Saxifraga can be oval, linear or round with colors ranging from dark green to light green with pink, yellow or reddish. This kind of succulent grows in rosettes and expands by covering the surfaces where it is planted. The inflorescences have different colors, depending on the variety that can be purple pink, white, cream white or yellow.
