Description:

Commonly called “pencil cactus”. It has an elongated and slim trunk, with the spines that are so thin that the almost seem like hairs. The pinkish colored flowers of wilcoxia are very impressive, it’s a plant easy to cultivate since it withstands both full sunlight exposure and freezing temperatures. Synonym: Echinocereus poselgeri.

Plant care:

It requires an exposure in a rather shady place: it is advisable to expose this plant to direct sunlight only during the cooler hours, for the rest of the day it needs to be located in a bright place though avoiding direct sun rays.

It prefers mild temperatures, it is advisable to shelter it when winter temperatures drop below 10-12 °C.

Water moderately in summer, making sure the soil is dry before proceeding with a new watering. In winter, especially if the plant is placed in closed or not very bright environments, it is advisable to water it only once a month, or when the soil is completely dry.

A well-draining substrate is an optimal solution, when mixed with coarse sand and lapilli.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
