Description:

The name of the genus Conophytum derives from the Greek words "kònos" (cone) and "phytòn" (plant), due to the characteristic cone shape of the stem. It is a rare, slow-growing succulent plant, which clusters over time. Its body is made up of fleshy leaves with depressed apex, of a light green color, covered with darker dots. Like the other Conophytum, this succulent plant also has a particular growth: the new leaves are formed inside the stem and then come out when the old leaves begin to dry out. The dry leaves protect the body of the plant during the summer vegetative rest, like some sort of a blanket.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, reduce it to every two months in autumn and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
