E. lomoelii f. crestata represents a unique exemplar and so sought after by collectors, because of its very particular fan crest. In its normal form it is a small succulent with a fleshy stem in glaucous green or opaque green, which with exposure to the sun also takes on purple hues, and long green stems that grow from the nodes, giving this plant a very attractive appearance. In ancient times it was also called Pedilanthus macrocarpus Benth and commonly they also call it 'Slipper plant'. Its beautiful flowers grow at the apex of the stems and have a particular triangular shape with closed petals of colors ranging from red to orange.
