Description:

Wonderful cultivar whose Portuguese name refers to molasses, sweetener of a bright color very similar to this succulent. Characterized by a typical compact and not very large rosette shape, it usually grows at the apex of a robust and woody stem, showing all its splendor with roundish and slightly pointed leaves at the apex, softly concave like a spoon. The epidermis of E. 'Melaco' is its real strength: from the delicate bright green center the foliage tends to fade towards a purple red until becoming, when abundantly exposed to sunlight, a chocolate-like shade, extremely peculiar and pleasant. A particularly shiny epidermis ontributes to its originality, reflecting under the sunlight, for a final effect that is that of an absolutely brilliant and showy plant, such as not to go unnoticed!

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 10 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in autumn and winter.

The best soil is a well draining one, for example formed by a mixture of peat and pumice so that the water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
