Browningia

The genus Browningia receives its name in honor of the American botanist WE Browning. These easy-to-grow cacti have an upright columnar habit and are characterized by the slender lines of their very long (up to 10 m) and relatively thin stems, which tend to branch out at the top in mature specimens, as well as by the dark green to blue color of its epidermis, typical for some species. These plants, from June to August produce large tubular pink and white nocturnal flowers with scales on the calice. Browningia are perfect to decorate your design vases and give a touch of charm to any kind of environment. Here are some easy tips for its cultivation: This plant requires a lot of light throughout the year, however avoid direct sunlight. Pay particular care and attention to younger specimens. It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 8 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period. Water moderately, only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in autumn and winter. A strongly draining soil is optimal, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that the water does not stagnate. Browningia is a plant that does not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute a specific fertilizer with watering once a year at the start of spring.
