Conophytum tantillum subs. helenae (Succulents)

The name of the genus Conophytum derives from the Greek words "kònos" (cone) and "phytòn" (plant), due to the characteristic cone shape of the stem. This rare succulent plant is made up of fleshy leaves, joined at the base in bright light green pairs, with burgundy margins. Like the other Conophytum also C. tantillum subs. helenae has a particular growth: the new leaves are formed inside the stem and then come out when the old leaves begin to dry out. The dry leaves protect the body of the plant during the vegetative rest in summer. In autumn you can admire its attractive pink flowers.
