The crested form of this cactus has the typical fan shape, sometimes not continuous but jagged into several narrow and flat segments, never equal from one plant to another. This uniqueness makes the plant so sought after and loved by collectors. Also called Austrocylindropuntia subulata, in its normal form it is a shrubby plant with columnar posture. It has a bright green stem with big tubercles on which we can notice small and woolly white areoles with small and pale thorns.
